AirWalk will begin offering an LTE product line starting with picocells in 2011, followed by femtocells. AirWalk’s migration path to an LTE product line offers operators improved performance functionality through increased spectrum efficiency, increased capacity, peak data rates and very low latency.

The LTE picocell in development incorporates Mindspeed®’s TranscedeTM next-generation wireless baseband processor and associated components. It combines the latest RISC processor technology with a high-performance DSP processing array in a single chip, providing a complete low-cost/high-value processing capability.

The picocell relies on Aricent’s software solution to provide a robust platform. It incorporates selected elements from the Aricent LTE eNodeB stack portfolio and includes the industry’s first Layer 2 stack for multi-core implementations.

AirWalk Communications, recently announced an on-premise enterprise femtocell that combines both wireless voice and data functionality.

EdgePoint PRO, the new femtocell product uses a dual-mode platform, and combines both 1xRTT and 1xEV-DO Rev. A. Company officials said that it also offers an “unprecedented” level of integration in a single device.

AirWalk’s EdgePoint PRO femtocell extends voice and data in-building cellular service to businesses, campus areas, and large industrial complexes. In order to connect subscribers to their carrier’s network through broadband Internet connections, the unit serves as a low-power access point, operating in licensed spectrum.

The EdgePoint PRO comes with full in-building cellular capabilities and also offers seamless hand-off and hand-in functionality with the macro network. Company officials said that it enhances AirWalk’s line of femtocell products.
