On the 32nd day of the 3G spectrum auction on Monday, a pan-India licence touched Rs 16,164 crore on Monday, against a base price of Rs 3,500 crore, taking the overall price of the third generation radio waves to Rs 65,311 crore.

Among the individual circles, Delhi saw the highest bid of Rs 3,155.97 crore, followed by Mumbai at Rs 3,089.50 crore.

According to PTI, Bharti Airtel's Rajan Mittal on Monday that "the government has provided one carrier for 3G which would not be able to serve the demand. In that way, I believe 3G would not be able to bring in a broadband revolution. One carrier is not enough for broadband and would not be able to meet data demand."

Nine telecom companies - Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular, Tata Teleservices, Aircel, Etisalat, S Tel and Videocon Telecommunications - are participating in the online auction.
