Alcatel-Lucent & Chunghwa Telecom to trial LTE in Taiwan

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it will cooperate with Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories (CHT-TL) to conduct an end-to-end Long Term Evolution (LTE) trial, using both the 2.6 GHz and 700 MHz bands. The trial which will begin in October 2010, will enable CHT to test the performance of LTE-based services and multimedia applications, and assess the related business models.

“As the leading operator in Taiwan, CHT is committed to providing its customers superior service in the changing competitive wireless landscape,” said Dr. Yuan-Kuang Tu, president of Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide a pre-integrated end-to-end solution including LTE base stations (eNodeBs), its Evolved Packet Core (EPC), IP service routing network elements, application portal as operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) system.

“This trial is a further step in the adoption of LTE in Asia-Pacific.CHT can count on Alcatel-Lucent’s transformation expertise to unleash the full business potential of LTE,” said Alain Biston, head of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in North East and South East Asia.
