The mobile operator EMT has built 130 4G base stations covering almost 35 percent of the country’s population since it launched the LTE network in Estonia on December 16, 2010. During 2012, EMT will build additional 200 4G base stations. LTE will be available throughout the whole country by the end of 2014, company announced.

According to the results of checks carried out by the Technical Surveillance Authority (TSA) in February and March, EMT is on track with its commitments for the 2011 target of 100 base stations. EMT built 106 stations, thus exceeding the commitment by 6%. The results of speed measurements by TSA show that average download speed in EMT’s 4G network is 40.2 Mbit/s, and the maximum speed reaches 70 Mbit/s.

By the end of 2011, EMT had invested over 20 million euros in mobile internet. In addition to 106 4G base stations, 328 new 3.5G base stations were installed and 30 old ones replaced. 2G network was also revamped – 220 2G base stations were replaced, 60 new base stations were built and 160 new repeaters were installed. EMT will continue with building both 4G and 3.5G networks throughout 2012.
