India's GSM service provider Aircel has indicated that it may choose WiMAX or TD-LTE for 2.3GHz spectrum deployments or it can roll out both.

“We could use some spectrum for Wimax, and the balance for TD-LTE when terminals become available” said Aircel's strategy and emerging business chief, Bharat Bhargava, reports telecomasia.net.

The Aircel group which is majority owned by Malaysia's Maxis Communications Berhad, has bagged eight circles in recently concluded India's BWA spectrum auction for Rs 3,438.01 crore. Aircel already have won thirteen 3G licenses across India.

With BWA win Aircel now has both 2.3GHz BWA spectrum and 2100MHz 3G spectrum in eight circles, while 3G-only spectrum in a further five markets.

With Infotel & Qualcomm declaring their intentions to follow TD-LTE route it is expected that others may consider same as well. For Aircel with 3G spectrum in 13 markets TD-LTE is a natural choice over WiMAX.
