SK Telecom and Ericsson have successfully demonstrated the Elastic Cell technology on July 21. According to SK Telecom, Elastic Cell is expected to become a key technology for 5G. Demonstrating data transfer rate improved by up to 50 percent at the cell-edge, SK Telecom aims to commercially launch the technology by 2016.
Vodafone Ireland has launched its first 4G PAYG Smartphone at a price of €99.99. Together with a Vodafone Red PAYG bundle, which can be bought with €30 credit, the Smart Turbo 4 will give access to Vodafone's 4G network, endless calls and texts and 1GB of data.

Wireless service provider America Movil has selected Alcatel-Lucent to rollout a 4G LTE network in the Dominican Republic. Alcatel-Lucent is supplying the America Movil subsidiary Claro Dominican Republic with its 4G LTE network overlay solution.
Orange Slovakia has launched LTE network in country. Operator's LTE service is currently available in Bratislava, Kosice and Banska Bystrica. Orange plans to cover 30 percent of the Slovak population with LTE by the end of year.
