Cloudberry Mobile Introduces New Managed Service Offering Based on Cisco Small Cell Solutions

London, UK & Oslo, Norway - November 11th, 2013 - Cloudberry, the leader in small cells as a managed service, today announced that their new managed service offering, which makes small cells affordable for any operator, is running 100 percent on Cisco. This is a solution especially suitable for operators and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) with limited infrastructure assets, the service combines Cloudberry’s unparalleled operational experience in small cell SON deployments with the Cisco Small Cell Solutions, says Tom Guldberg, Cloudberry CEO.

Today, most operators are looking to augment network capacity and solve in-building signal problems with small cells. The demand from enterprises is particularly strong – there are clear productivity benefits to going mobile, but modern construction methods tend to make office buildings some of the worst places to get a decent signal. Small cells provide coverage and capacity at unbeatably low operational costs, but many smaller operators and MVNOs lack the network assets, IT infrastructure, and manpower to launch and deploy them successfully.

"Cloudberry’s managed service makes it easy for operators and MVNOs to deliver premium quality mobile services in the enterprise by hosting a small cell gateway and remotely operating all of the logistics of rolling out enterprise and residential small cells,” says Edwin Paalvast, SVP for Service Providers in EMEA, Cisco. “Building on their expertise in rolling out small cell SONs, Cloudberry works with the operator to integrate the small cell deployment with existing business processes.”

One of the key requirements of this solution is that each installation must be simple – a task for a third party IT contractor, and definitely not a radio engineering project. This is where Cisco intelligent small cells come in: the only fully automatic small cells in use today, continuously adapting to their radio environment to ensure good service and improved network KPIs.

Other requirements include scalability for the managed service, provided by Cisco’s small cell gateway systems; enterprise Wi-Fi compatibility, provided by Cisco heterogeneous access products; and broader capabilities such as Cisco’s commercially deployed hetnet SON systems and wireless backhaul.

“The mobile industry is experiencing a revolution, and we are part of the first wave,” underlines Guldberg. “Cisco was the obvious choice for us because of the software automation in its small cells, because of the scalability of its gateway systems, and because of its broader Wi-Fi and enterprise expertise and leadership.”
