Oceus Networks Expands Xiphos 4G LTE Broadband Solution Suite

in press-release, Oceus Networks, 4G, LTE

RESTON, Va. (April 2, 2012) – Oceus Networks, a leading provider of broadband solutions to government and industry, today announced the availability of its new expanded fourth-generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) family of fully interoperable solutions that enable secure high-speed, high-capacity, voice, video and data transmissions. Ruggedized for extreme environments and situations, Xiphos™ systems provide turnkey, easily deployable broadband networks wherever traditional communication infrastructures are unavailable or compromised.

Expansion of the broadband solution suite, commonly known as Xiphos R2, includes software enhancements that provide seamless mobility with handover among multiple Xiphos systems.

Xiphos R2 now provides:

  • nearly unlimited coverage when used in a network of systems
  • support for up to ‘no practical limit’ of subscribers
  • up to a thousand concurrent user sessions per system
  • advanced Self Organizing Networks (SON) features
  • multi-frequency support with up to four different frequency bands per system
  • indoor and outdoor ruggedized configurations
  • additional frequency bands: 700 (12, 14), 800 (20), 1900 (25) and TD-2300 (40)
  • enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) features which enable prioritization of real-time sensitive data transmission for mission critical applications, for example, situational awareness, video streaming and VoIP

“Xiphos R2 offers the latest in advanced LTE broadband,” said Douglas C. Smith, President and CEO, Oceus Networks. “Access to fast, mobile connectivity can literally save lives, and we are proud to be the first company to deliver a proven mobile tactical cellular solution to meet the highly sought after, but rare, resource of 4G LTE broadband anytime, anywhere. We will continue to innovate to meet the emerging mobile communications needs of our customers.”

The new Xiphos platform was announced on Sunday at the 2012 Department of Defense Intelligence Information Systems (DoDIIS) Worldwide Conference in Denver. It will be on display throughout the show in Oceus Networks’ booth (#538).

Originally introduced in May 2011, Xiphos is a proven COTS-based family of solutions that dynamically delivers 4G LTE broadband to enable many networked applications in demand by “edge”-positioned personnel, including high-definition video, massive voice and data delivery, embedded standards-based interoperable cellular functionality and other connectivity crucial to mission-critical operations. Designed to overlay and interoperate with existing networking infrastructures, Xiphos networks are made to meet emerging communications needs no matter how advanced the required capability or how isolated the surrounding terrain.

The Xiphos solution can also scale within any customer’s architecture, from a compact configuration that provides high data throughput to a few targeted users within a defined coverage area, to high capacity configurations that serve a large number of users with a wide coverage area and extremely high data rates. This is done simply by adding more radio units and by linking together a number of Xiphos systems. All systems interoperate with full mobility functionality and embedded priority and preemption capabilities. The Xiphos offerings are an extension of Oceus Networks’ mission to provide its customers with standards-based situational awareness and collaboration solutions to make fast and accurate decisions in the field.
