UBEE and Celeno Announce Implicit Beamforming-Powered Wi-Fi Gateways

in press-release, Celeno, Ubee, WiFi

Las Vegas, Nevada, January 6th, 2014 – Celeno Communications, a leading provider of high-performance Wi-Fi chips and software for home networking applications, and Ubee Interactive, a global broadband technology company, today announced the integration of Celeno’s implicit beamforming technology into its xDSL Gateway product line.

“Celeno always strives to deliver optimal Wi-Fi solutions with a reliable and consistent signal to the edge of the house,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “We are delighted to partner with UBEE and commercially launch products that employ cutting-edge Wi-Fi innovations such as implicit beamforming to achieve the best possible combined throughput and range.”

"Our customers have very high expectations of their Wi-Fi and coverage is one of their most important parameters," says Gilles Guittard, Vice President, Telco EMEA at Ubee Interactive. "Celeno's implicit beamforming technology enables us to deliver the utmost whole home coverage and quality of experience to any wireless device including laptops, tablets and smartphones independently of its Wi-Fi silicon technology.”

Technology explained

Beamforming is a digital signal processing technique that aims to enhance transmission or reception at a desired point in space. A home gateway may use beam-forming to extend the coverage and boost up the Wi-Fi signal received by clients at the edge of the home.  Transmit beam forming is achieved by dynamically transmitting from multiple radios phase-shifted streams in such a way that signals transmitted experience constructive phase summation and build up coherently exactly at the point in space in which the designated client device is located.

In contrast to the explicit beam forming technique which relies on special client devices designed to support explicit beamforming, Celeno implements a unique client agnostic implicit beamforming scheme in the Access Point, which does not require any cooperation from the client device.

This technology enables the gateway to provide increased throughput and coverage to any client: laptop, tablet or smartphone, regardless of its Wi-Fi generation (11bgn or 11ac) or manufacturer.
