query on ISR (idle mode signalling reduction)

in LteWorld Forum

TS 23.401 says that "MMEi/SGSN activate ISR after determining SGW's support for ISR. How MME/SGSN determine SGW's support for ISR is implementation dependent."

How is this usually done ? Is there a command at MME/SGSN that can be configured to denote that a particular SGW supports ISR. ?

Thanks in advance.

First note that ISR support

First note that ISR support is optional for core network. So to make it work all involved CN elements must support it.

Now as 3GPPi has put determination of support for ISR implementation dependent, most probably vendors will have some ISR flag per serving GW. So if you know a place where you can add/modify the a serving GW then this flag should be there. If it is not there then it may indicate that MMEi does not have ISR feature. As Implementation option MME could very well have global ISR flag for itself to enable/disable ISR.
